Dear Australia,

Never stop having strange and interesting birds.

I am beyond entranced. It's like an Edward Gorey drawing come to life!

Fondly,
Esther

Currawongs! The black ones are Tasmanian. Ours are pied currawongs, and they're huge and devastatingly aware. When they ruffle their feathers up you can see all the white, like petticoats. We usually have two or three sitting on our TV antenna, watching us going about our business. I don't know why they're so interested or to whom they're reporting. I'm not sure I want to know.

Not that this is a new observation, but your flora and fauna is unspeakably cool! (If -- ha. I really like your phrase, "devastatingly aware." That's kind of perfect.)
